What would happen to your family if you died today? It is a rather blunt question, one that makes most people uncomfortable. Well, just imagine how uncomfortable your family would be if you left them in a financially difficult situation. This is why life insurance is so important.

Dad recovered to the point that he had ten more good years of life, except for the two times his head sprung a leak. He had a brain bleed. That is a bleeding blood vessel between the skull and the brain, but it is not in the brain. It presses the brain and gives symptoms of a stroke, but it is not a stroke. Once the bleeding is stopped, the brain returns to normal, and so does the patient. Anyway, neither the aneurysm not the brain bleeds were dad's illness. Although he should have died, he didn't. None of those were the illness of which dad would die.

When sending flowers, there are two places to consider. The first is the funeral home or church where the service will take place. The flowers you send here will be on display at the viewing and/or funeral. The family member(s) that you send the flowers to will then have a chance to bring them home after the service. The second place to send flowers is the home residence of the family, whomever you are closest with that is related to the deceased. This could be a son, a mother, a husband, a niece, etc. Some prefer this method if they did not know the deceased person well but they wish to show their sympathy to the family member that they are friends, neighbors, or coworkers with.

Many people fear that they won't get everything done they wanted to accomplish. There has been books wrote upon and a movie done about "The Bucket List." Some worry they haven't completed everything God sent them here to do.

I know things will never be the same, yet I have to live my life. The question is, how do I go about it? Pesach Krauss and Morrie Goldfisher write about getting on with life in their book, "Why Me? Coping With Grief, Loss and change." After the death of a loved one Krauss and Goldfisher think we need to shift our focus from a direct relationship with the deceased to identifying with his or her values.

Realize that you aren't alone on this journey and you can share the burden of the arrangements and grief together. You can quietly go about thinking of who can help with music, readings and everything else. Don't make it complicated by involving too many people - a small team will do it.

Sometimes I ask myself if time will make my life any easier. I know time will not change anything. My husband will stay dead. But I remember him differently. And most of all I know that I am different.
