The UGO file protection system is a way of setting file permissions in UNIX systems. The letters UGO stand for User, Group, and Other. Each letter corresponds to a set of permissions that can be granted or denied to a file or directory. The three sets of permissions are read (r), write (w), and execute (x).

The first letter of UGO corresponds to the User permissions. The second letter corresponds to the Group permissions. The third letter corresponds to the Other permissions.

The read permission allows a file to be read. The write permission allows a file to be modified. The execute permission allows a file to be executed as a program.

For example, if you want to give read, write, and execute permissions to the owner of a file, read and execute permissions to members of the group that owns the file, and no permissions at all to anyone else, you would use the following command:

```
chmod 750 filename
```

Here, 7 corresponds to read, write, and execute permissions for the owner of the file; 5 corresponds to read and execute permissions for members of the group that owns the file; and 0 corresponds to no permissions at all for anyone else¹³.
