Umbreon is an excellent pick in the Ferocious Cup. It's big enough to fire fast charge moves and put significant shield pressure onto most opponents. Nidoqueen is another excellent pick due to its ability to defeat most Steel, Poison, Fire, and Water types. This makes her a great choice for Water types like Shelgon, Raichu and Minun.

Shelgon is a good choice with Nidoqueen. It checks most Electric types, while luring Fairy types to switch lock. This will give Nidoqueen a chance to land Dig. This is especially useful when used with an Electric type such as Alolan Ninetales, Granbull, or Granbull. They can easily defeat most Water types without the need for a hard counter.

Bibarel has trouble with Ground types, and is often unable or unwilling to handle them. But Shelgon can help, as it can take out most Water and Electric types. Because it has double resistance to both Nidoqueen or Skuntank, this is a great choice for teams struggling to beat them.

Aggron is not able to deal with Fairy types. It is not as strong against Shelgon because it does not have double resistance to Fighting types. However, it has excellent counter coverage with Counter and Heavy Slam. It can beat Bibarel with Counter to a certain degree, though it is susceptible to being defeated in neutral matchups.

It isn’t quite strong enough to deal with a fast-charge move. Lairon can prove difficult. But Shelgon can help. Shelgon can quickly hit water and do significant damage. Shelgon may also bait in a Fairy to Lairon's check. This will make the Water type less likely to attack it, and give it a free pokemon.
