Carbon is the main component of fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and natural gas, which are widely used for generating electricity and powering vehicles. Carbon also forms the basis of many synthetic materials, such as plastics, fibers, rubber, and carbon nanotubes. Carbon can also be used as a tracer in radiocarbon dating and radiolabeling, as well as a catalyst in chemical reactions.</p>
