The Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2022) film is the latest entry in this epic adventure and fantasy world, based on the popular board game with the same name. The film is produced by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley and stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Rege-Jean Page , among others.

The story follows a group of thieves who are looking for a magic item from a city in the medieval period and battling numerous enemies and obstacles, including a group of adventurers led by a Paladin (sort sort of). The film has all the essential elements of the typical Dungeons & Dragons adventure: swords as well as dragons, magic treasure, and epic fights.

When we watch the trailer, we know what we're going to see: a movie with a more or less predictable script, a few poorly developed characters and more. And it doesn't matter, since what Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves seeks is to provide us with an entertaining and enjoyable story, where comedy and action are not absent. He succeeds in spades.

We are enticed into a world that is not just familiar, but is very enjoyable precisely because of the familiarity: the main character, Grayson (played by Pine) is a thief with a heart of gold, trying to redeem himself. The main plot of the film is the hunt for the mysterious object, it is somewhat predictable, but the story, the pace and the acting are enough to keep the audience interested for less than two hours.

The film shows us several scenes where the action is thrilling and well choreographed. It is also punctuated with funny dialogues (although somewhat simple, it's true) and some well choreographed fight scenes.

The video editing as well as visual effects appear uniform but they stand out in areas of the film where the quality is noticeably more impressive. It won't win the Oscar for best special effects but it passes with a very good grade.

Some fans of the game may be blamed for the game's lack of authenticity to the original board game. But it is that it is an adaptation, a spin-off if we want: although it is true that the movie is based on the Dungeons & Dragons game, the plot and characters are not directly related to the mythology associated with the game, and it is not we should expect to see a faithful and exciting movie adaptation in the grand scale.

The cast is also impressive. I can only say it is solid, with skilled actors who do their best in the roles they are given. It is possible that Michelle Rodriguez stands out especially for her portrayal of an imposing warrior. the above Chris Pine in his role as the mischievous thief and the other actors, although to a lesser degree they are suited to their roles. There are some cleverly executed comedy moments. They offer comic relief amid the chaos and chaos.
