Gnomes hidup di liang dibawah tanah, dimana mereka akan menggali dan memakan akar dari tanaman. Gnome sangat suka sekali memakan cacing dan salah satu produk dari Bertie Bott's, Every-Flavour Beans. Satu-satunya predator alami natural Gnome adalah Jarvey. Menurut Muriel, Gnome ini cepat sekali berkembang biak sehingga populasinya begitu banyak. Selain itu, menurut Xenophilius Lovegood, memiliki Gnome di kebun merupakan hal yang menguntungkan. Karena saat anaknya, Luna Lovegood digigit oleh Gnome ia mengklaim bahwa air liur dari Gnome ini memiliki manfaat yang tidak biasa. Seperti membuat bakat kita bertambah satu. Kemudian Luna memberitahu Harry bahwa ayahnya melakukan penelitian terhadap Gnome dan hasilnya adalah Gnome memiliki kemampuan magis atau sihir yang berbeda dengan dunia sihir/wizarding world.
