RANGKUMAN HERBOLOGY
PERATURAN PEMBERIAN NAMA ILMIAH PADA TUMBUHAN
Setiap organisme mempunyai nama ilmiah tertentu.
Untuk nama ilmiah digunakan bahasa latin atau yang dilatinkan.
Tidak ada dua organisme atau lebih yang mempunyai nama spesies yang sama atau hampir sama.
Nama genus harus terdiri dari satu kata dan penulisannya selalu dimulai dengan hurup besar.
Nama spesies terdiri dari dua kata. Kata pertama merupakan nama genus dan kata kedua merupakan petunjuk spesies.
Contoh nama ilmiah padi: Oryza sativa
1 2
1 = nama genus
2 = nama petunjuk spesies
1 + 2 = nama spesies
Perlu di ingat penulisan nama spesies harus ditulis menggunakan huruf miring atau digaris bawahi.
Garis bawah kata pertama dan kedua harus terpisah. Selain itu juga dapat dicetak tebal.
Oryza sativa / Oryza sativa / Oryza sativa.
Nama penemu boleh dicantumkan dibelakang nama spesies, seperti: Oryza sativa L, L merupakan singkatan nama atau nama penemunya.
Untuk pemberian nama suku (famili) terdiri dari satu kata majemuk dibentuk dari salah satu nama genus ang dibawahinya ditambah akhiran –ceae untuk tumbuhan dan akhiran –idea untuk hewan. Seperti berikut :
Solanum + aceae = Solanaceae
Felis + idae = Felidae
Jika tidak diketahui penunjukkan jenis (spesies) maka nama spesiesnya adalah setelah genus ditulis sp. dengan huruf kecil dan tidak dicetak miring, digaris bawah atau dicetak tebal.
