King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard have a reputation for being among the most entertaining and fun live acts around the world. Their fan base is huge and diverse and they're known for their most innovative and psychedelic tracks. They've also put together a catalog of 20 studio albums including two compilations as well as three EPs.


For kinggizzardandthelizardwizardmerch who have been listening to the band since Mind Fuzz, you might be surprised to find out that their sound hasn't really changed over the time. They're still rocking their goofy grooves and psychedelic twang, but they've also gained an impressive fan base through playing in various genres and hosting energetic live shows.


They've reintroduced "fun" to an excessively serious indie-rock world, and they've managed to remain fresh. While some songs can be slightly ponderous, or conceptual, they're still entertaining. Stu McKenzie, along with his crew of frizzy haired professionals, have perfected the art of keeping the party moving onstage.


They've released five albums in the last two decades. One of the albums was a highly acclaimed double-LP. The Carlton Dry Global Music Grant they won in 2013 permitted them to perform in the United States for the first time. This tour was a turning point for the band as they began to expand their zany brand of psychedelic music on larger scale.


They've been writing new songs since the beginning, but this is typically limited to live shows. It's where the bulk of their creative juices are today, Stu Mackenzie tells me on the phone from Seattle in the US, where the band is currently on their long tour through October.


Mackenzie, Joey Walker, Joey Cook, Lucas Harwood, and drummer Michael Cavanagh have a lot of responsibilities these days but they're all still enjoying themselves. They've also improved their skills in delivering entertaining shows to large crowds.


Their recent release Ice Death, which was also a limited edition vinyl release it was an ideal launchpad for the band's latest chapter: Laminated Denim. It was originally conceived to be used as an intermission track at long Red Rocks concerts. It was released on March 15th. It featured two motorik jams of 15 minutes featuring a metronomic beat that was 60 bpm.



This pace was perfect for tracks like "The Land Before Timeland", and "Hypertension." Laminated Denim is a collaborative version of "two 15-minute songs" that includes some electronic music.


They are addictive and you'll never be able to put down your headphones to them. These are the songs you will be tempted to listen to endlessly.


The group has also been more frequent in recent years with the release of a new album every year. They've gained a loyal following in their native country and are well-known for breaking the limits of rock music while maintaining their distinctive psychedelic sound.
