There's no denying that King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are one of the most exciting live music groups in the world. They have a huge worldwide fan base, and they've an impressive record of writing some of the most innovative and psychedelic music in the history of rock. They've recorded 20 studio albums, two compilations, as well as three EPs.


If you've been listening to Mind Fuzz since its inception, you may be surprised to learn that their sound hasn’t changed much over the decades. They're still awash with their fun grooves and psychedelic twang but they've also built up an enthusiastic fan base by engaging in multiple genres as well as putting on energetic live shows.


They've brought back "fun" into an excessively serious indie-rock world and have managed to remain fresh throughout the process. While some of their songs may seem a bit too abstract or philosophical, they're always fun and Stu McKenzie and his crew of prodigies with frizzy hair have a knack of keeping the party going in the stage.


In the past two years, they've recorded five albums, including the critically acclaimed double-LP released last year. The Carlton Dry Global Music Grant they won in 2013 permitted them to tour in the United States for the first time, and that tour was a turning point for the band when they started to explore their unique style of psychedelic music on larger scale.


They've been writing new songs however, it's mostly confined to their live shows. king gizzard and the lizard wizard merch 's where the bulk of their energy comes from nowadays, Stu Mackenzie tells me over the phone from Seattle, where the band is in the middle of their long tour through October.


Mackenzie and the rest of the crew (guitarists Cook Craig and Joey Walker along with bassist Lucas Harwood and drummer Michael Cavanagh -- have many things on their plate in recent times, but they've maintained their fun spirit. They've also got better in their ability to deliver a memorable performance at even the most crowded venues.


Their most recent album Ice Death, which was also a vinyl-only one-off that served as the perfect starting point for the band's latest album: Laminated Denim. Originally conceived as intermission music for lengthy Red Rocks shows, it was released in March and featured a pair of 15-minute jams with motorik that sped around at 60 beats per minute metronomic pulse.


The tempo was just right for two jams featuring the deepest grooves and most wicked guitar licks, like "The Land Before Timeland" and "Hypertension." But now they've upped the ante by releasing Laminated Denim, which features a more collaborative iteration of the "two 15-minute songs" concept . It also includes a few other excursions into electronic music.


The tracks are addicting and you won't be able to put down your headphones to them. These are tracks that you will wish to hear repeatedly.



They've also been more prolific throughout the years and release a new LP every year. They have a huge following in their home country, and they've built a reputation for breaking the boundaries of contemporary rock, while keeping their psychedelic twang intact.
