Up until the day before dad died, my mom never gave up hope that he would recover. She worked and prayed for him to get well enough for their lives to go on together a while longer. She hoped against hope that this illness would not be the illness that killed dad. Now, mom, and all the rest of us, have to admit that THIS was dad's illness. It was the 'illness of which he died '. The Bible tells us that the prophet Elisha fell ill of an illness. It was HIS illness. It was the illness that would kill Elisha.




The old handyman was a familiar sight in Eagan Creek. Dressed in his usual attire, faded bib overalls, a plaid flannel shirt and a sweat-stained brown fedora, folks treated him more so as an oddity than as a hired workman.
