You may think that wearing a dark suit or a somber black dress to a funeral is the only required custom that won't make you stand out from the crowd - or insult the other mourners. Wrong. There's a lot more to funeral etiquette than just wearing the right clothes. Knowing what to do - and what not to do - can help prevent offense on the day, and spare you lasting embarrassment in future.

Your loved ones heard a lot from you when you were alive. There were probably ideas that weren't yet shared and discussed. Possibly life changing thoughts and ideas that could have helped elevate someone's spirits, mindset, or attitude. A lot of the time, family and friends encourage each other just from the smallest ounce of encouragement and support. That's what people need, support that goes a long ways. Release your inhibitions through your message from death. Write ideas that move mountains so your loved ones can embrace them and carry the torch when you're not around.

How sad that a man had so much but so little. Michael had money, recognition, fame and in the end died in debt. Taken away in a plain white van and covered in a pure white sheet. When sending flowers, there are two places to consider. The first is the funeral home or church where the service will take place. The flowers you send here will be on display at the viewing and/or funeral. The family member(s) that you send the flowers to will then have a chance to bring them home after the service. The second place to send flowers is the home residence of the family, whomever you are closest with that is related to the deceased. This could be a son, a mother, a husband, a niece, etc. Some prefer this method if they did not know the deceased person well but they wish to show their sympathy to the family member that they are friends, neighbors, or coworkers with.

It is heart wrenching to watch the fear cross a loved ones face if they have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. The tragedy is compounded, because again the little time that they have left is spent in fear of drawing their last breath.


The first point of dealing with the death of a loved one is to accept loss as a basic part of our life cycle. Anything that is born must eventually die - this is the law of the universe. When we are young, we tend to forget that our physical bodies are mortal. We also tend to overlook the fragility of life around us. Because we are so consumed in our daily routines, we forget that the physical universe around us; is only temporary. If we continually remember this fact then we will be able to find our inner source of happiness and security. Accepting a limitation related to our human life is only the beginning of dealing with the death of a loved one.

How you react to all of this is going to teach your child how to deal with loss and grief for the rest of their lives. Approach it all with love, honesty and understanding and you'll be on the right track.
