い are often adjectives
う sound = verb

Jourm the farm hand (じょう )- he's working above the ground with all the plants.
Mrs. Chou (ちょう) - mean woman walking down the street being cruel
Genji (げん). - Genji is the name of the main character in the world's first ever novel, "The Tale of Genji."

〜才 = years old (さい)

The 々 symbol just repeats the kanji that comes before it. You'll see it from time to time, so take note of it, even though it doesn't really have any meaning of its own. So, essentially 中々 is the same as 中中.

月 has two on'yomi readings, but it always uses the がつ reading in the names of the months

The 山 reading is ざん instead of さん because of rendaku (sequential voicing).


The particle の, joins two nouns together

All words for nationalities, the 人 is pronounced じん

Jukugo (熟語) are compound words: Just like English, several kanji compose a jukugo. (think of the English words like "butt pirate", "can opener," "douche bag" or "hat rack"). Once you learned enough kanji, you can comprehend Jukugo almost without trying.
