Love Is Stronger Than Death

Being asked to deliver a funeral speech to honor a friend or loved one is a special privilege, but you may not be certain what to say. Rather than turn down that opportunity, follow these guidelines instead to create a meaningful funeral speech.

This was either done with swords or other primitive weapons, eventually evolving to include the use of guns. Imagine if it was still acceptable today to fight someone to the death, because they wronged you in some way. Or perhaps you simply just don't like each other. People would be dieing left and right. The most acceptable form of killing that has stuck with us from the beginning is war fare. In this case we do not have one or two people killing but a large number of people killing each other.




Today, the internet is bringing people closer together and connecting friends, relatives and business associates in ways some never thought possible. Because of the push for new technology, software and other online applications, even the way people attend a funeral is now changing too. One particular type of funeral software even makes it possible to practically be in two places at once.

You may need to get some old 8mm, 16mm or super 8 film converted into a digital form so you can add a clip of that to your funeral slideshow. But here's a hint: don't just go for the cheapest. Some converters don't even look at what they are doing with your priceless old film and the final result can be very dark, or very light, or it may have horrible ragged black edges.

Years past, the grave and its existence disappeared. A tractor mower had knocked over the temporary grave marker, and weeds soon engulfed this neglected resting-place. It was almost as if the man had never lived at all. It remained that way for almost seven years following his death.

Don't try to deny how you feel about the person who died. Don't be afraid to think about them and about the good times you've shared together. If you have a creative streak, do something with it. Create something dedicated to them. A painting, a poem, a cross stitch work, anything artistic, do it and dedicate it to them.

When I'm working one on one with a client, I will typically suggest that we hold a two day planning session off site at a nearby hotel or conference center. The goal is to get you away from your funeral home so that you can focus on the planning process rather than being distracted every time you hear the phone ring. I like to take a tour of your funeral home so that I get a better sense for your business but we should only hold the meeting there if you have a truly private area where you won't hear the phones.

I am not sure if the Nelson's were a part of my invention, or my reinvention. I think both, because I think back when trying to make a decision and remember some of the life lessons I learned back then watching Ozzie, Harriet David and Ricky Nelson on TV.
