In 2012, the Philadelphia-based Emo group Modern Baseball released their debut album Sports on Lame-O Records that same year. Modern Baseball Puzzles -recorded debut album received plenty of praise and built a loyal fan base. Their second release entitled You're Going to Miss It All in 2014 was a chart-topper at #97 on Billboard's Top 200 and led them to concerts with bands like The Wonder Years, Into It and more.
As the band expanded as they grew, their music changed. The album released in 2015, The Perfect Cast showed that their adolescent nerve energy was still a strong force and had the sonic heft. The band's 2016 album Holy Ghost, released by Run For Cover Records, continues to explore emotional terrain with a more sombre sound. It also features the more prominent sonic development.
Tumblr was an integral part of Modern Baseball's success. It let them share content from their blog and put the site in front of music enthusiasts and brand new fans. The site's simple-to-find subcultures as well as easily-searchable blog posts helped them get their message out across the globe and the community they established in the end grew into a welcoming community of fans.
PropertyOfZack is also a key part of their success. It's difficult to think of Modern Baseball without its contributions. Zack Zarrillo, a Drexel graduate and the creator of POZ was a huge fan of the band and jumped at the chance to interview them as well as write reviews.
The dispute over the control of The Metal Shop in Philadelphia which is where the band recorded their music, led to the band's dissolution at the end of 2017. Jake and Ian continue to collaborate at their own studio while Sean is working on his own music career with Steady Hands.
