FSI/LMS’s work is guided by the Department’s Leadership and Management Principles and aims to energize, grow, and support a culture of leadership throughout the Department of State. The Overseas Briefing Center provides extensive country research materials, logistical information for an international move, and cultural adjustment resources. The Career Transition Center organizes retirement planning seminars and a job search program that focuses on career development, job search strategies and life planning. The Transition Center (FSI/TC) is headed by a director and deputy director who are responsible for managing and maintaining a variety of training programs and information delivery services. The Transition Center prepares the Department of State community for competence and success in U.S. foreign affairs through transition training, resources, and information. FSI/TC operates with the vision of a resilient foreign affairs community that successfully manages repeated career transitions and stands ready to execute U.S. foreign policy goals across a full career span.

Provides the comprehensive Job Search / Transition Program to assist foreign affairs employees to transition successfully into the next phase of their professional and personal lives. The Division of Romance Languages (FSI/SLS/ROM) directs, designs and conducts proficiency-based language training in Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, and Spanish. The Division of European and African Languages (FSI/SLS/EUA) directs, designs, and conducts proficiency-based language training for Albanian, Amharic, non-Slavic north and central European languages, French, Greek, Hausa, Swahili, and Somali.

CMT’s mission is to act as a catalyst to energize, grow, and support a culture of crisis preparedness and leadership at American diplomatic missions, both overseas and across the U.S. foreign affairs community. They do this by preparing posts—through instruction, training, and exercises—to effectively respond before, during, and in the aftermath of crises that threaten U.S. interests, the Department’s mission, and American citizens overseas. This mission remains the same; however, what has changed is what they have learned over the past 18 months and how they accomplish their mission. Prior to joining FSI in May 2016, Michael served as Vice President for a premier Food Broker in the Pittsburgh, Ohio and West Virginia market. Prior to working with FSI, he worked for Westinghouse, Four Rivers Software Systems, Tele-Tracking Technologies, and has written custom desktop and handheld software for a variety of companies through his work as an independent consultant. His experience as both a developer and a consultant in the CMMS industry allows him to understand the customer’s needs and provide solutions that benefit not only that customer, but all customers. He has over 15 years of experience working with healthcare clients in both facilities and clinical engineering.

Joe has 31 years of experience in facility management in the healthcare industry including management, consulting and sales. Joe spent 14 years working in the healthcare facilities management field before starting his own company. His healthcare experience started in the Facilities Management department at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is a seasoned professional with a broad range of experience in facility management, computerized maintenance management systems and business development. Prior to coming to FSI, Claire held various positions in facilities management and hospital leadership with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Atrium Health. She has experience managing maintenance programs and teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and has an understanding and love of the hospital environment.

She holds Series 7, 24, 63 and 65 licenses, and is a Registered Corporate Coach with the World Association of Business Coaches. Jodi currently serves on the board of the Florida Securities Dealer’s Association and the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. The Foreign Service Institute comprises the School of Language Studies, the School of Professional and Area Studies, the School of Applied Information Technology, the Leadership and Management School, the Transition Center, and the Office of the Historian.
