Twenty years later, the emo pop/punk singer continues to draw new fans and fill arenas. She is a skilled musician who can create music for the millennial generation.
Love Sux is her second album. It has a similar feel to Let Go, which was released in 2002. Songs such as "FU" (and Bois Lie) are true break-up anthems. "Dare to Love Me", however, is a heartfelt song that makes Lavigne sound as raw and honest as ever.
"I'm a Mess" is a great example of the chemistry Lavigne and YUNGBLUD. This is one our favourite new pop-punk tracks. It features a soaring soprano, gritty drums and the kind of raps that make you want to scream at the top of your lungs.
Mod Sun, Lavigne's fiancée, joined her on stage for a few songs. He performed an impressive performance of himself. His powerful vocals, and his riffing guitar kept energy high. But he couldn't compete with his singer-songwriter peers to win the attention of a crowd mostly made up of women in their 20s.
Sun and Lavigne received support from a few local artists that had a wider appeal. avrillavignemerch , a Toronto singer and songwriter with strong pop-punk appeal, was successful with his rendition of Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time. He took 30 minutes to find his groove, and his performance wasn't as impactful as Mod Sun or Lavigne's. On Wednesday night, most people in Victoria came home satisfied with their experience. That's a good thing. It's a tribute to the resurgence in popularity of a beloved popstar who deserves all the praise she receives.
