อัตราส่วน
องค์ประกอบของงานออกแบบ ิยมใช้อัตราส่วน 1:50 และ 1:100 สำหรับในการเขียนแผนผังพื้นอาคารพัก ทั้งนี้จำต้องมองให้พอเหมาะกับหน้ากระดาษด้วย โดยทั่วไปถ้าอาคารขนาดเล็กใช้อัตราส่วน 1:50 หากอาคารขนาดใหญ่ขึ้นใช้อัตราส่วน 1:100 แล้วก็ถ้าหากอาคารมีขนาดใหญ่มากมาย อย่างเช่น ผังพื้นของโรงงานขนาดใหญ่ ใช้มาตราส่วน 1:200 ได้ และก็เมื่อใช้อัตราส่วน 1:50 กับแผนผังพื้น ก็ควรที่จะใช้อัตราส่วน 1:50 กับแบบอื่นๆทั้งยังตึกด้วย
โดยแบ่งมาตราส่วนที่ใช้เพื่อการวาดแบบออกเป็น 3 ชนิด ดังต่อไปนี้
อัตราส่วนจริง ขนาดของชิ้นงานที่วาดแบบจะมีขนาดเท่าของแท้ สัญลกัษณ์ 1 : 1
มาตรราส่วนย่อ ขนาดของแบบงานจะย่อเล็กลงตามสมควร สัญลกัษณ์ 1 : 50
มาตราส่วนขยาย ขนาดของแบบงานจะขยายใหญ่มากยิ่งกว่า แบบจริงที่กำหนด สัญลกัษณ์ 2 : 1
เส้น
จำเป็นต้องคำนึงถึงความสม่ำเสมอของเส้น น้ำหนัก หรือความหนาของเส้นที่ใช้เฉพาะงาน และประสิทธิภาพของเส้น
ความหนาของเส้น เส้นที่เขียนในแบบควรจะมีความดกไม่เหมือนกันตามความหมายโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งของเส้นนั้นอย่างเช่น เส้นหนามาก ควรที่จะใช้แสดงเป็นเส้นขอบนอกของรูปตัด เส้นบางใช้เขียนเส้นมิติ ฯลฯ
ชนิดของเส้นมีดังนี้ เส้นบาง เส้นครึ้ม เส้นหนามาก ความดกของเส้นที่ใช้มีขนาด 0.13, 0.18, 0.25, 0.35,
0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.4 และก็ 2.0 มิลลิเมตร
ความดกของเส้นที่ใช้ในแต่ละแบบใช้ทั้งยัง 3 ขนาดตามอัตราส่วน 1:2:4 อาทิเช่น เส้นบาง ใช้ขนาดเส้น 0.13 มิลลิเมตร เส้นครึ้ม ใช้ขนาดเส้น 0.25 มม. เส้นหนามาก ใช้ขนาดเส้น 0.5 มิลลิเมต
หรือถ้าหากเป็นรูปที่มายี่ห้อส่วนเสริมใหญ่ขึ้นเป็น 1:20 ขนาดของเส้นที่ใช้ก็อาจใหญ่ขึ้นทั้ง 3 ขนาด ยกตัวอย่างเช่น ขนาด 0.18 มิลลิเมตร ขนาด 0.35 มิลลิเมตร แล้วก็ขนาด 0.7 มม. เป็นต้น
หากใช้ดินสอ เส้นบางบางทีอาจจะใช้เกรด H เส้นครึ้มใช้ HB และเส้นหนามากใช้ B เมื่อเขียนบนกระดาษวาดเขียน ฯลฯ
