Notes

This is one of my favorites. Every show, the front ensemble walks to the show site before the band and guard comes along. We set up our instruments alongside the track, and watch the group before us perform, as Tien gives us a short little speech and we take our three deep breaths together. As we walk on, we pass by the other group walking off // as we walk off, we pass by the other group walking on. It's like an unsaid tradition, but we always wish the other groups good luck or we say, "good job", when they pass by. It makes me SO happy. I think that's literally my favorite part about show days. That 30 second interaction with another band, another group of students doing the same thing I love. People we probably will never be able to get to know personally in our lives, and yet, we wish each other good luck, or say good job to one another. I think that's so, SO, special. That tiny little moment. It means the world to me, it really does. Seeing their accomplished, sweaty, tired, faces as they walk off, wishing us good luck, even though we're who they're going against. Or seeing their nervous, excited, anxious, faces as they walk on the field, and being able to tell them good luck. And just hearing them congratulate us on our performance, even if they weren't there to listen to it. I think it's an amazing thing, to be able to share your love for band and front ensemble and just percussion through these two simple phrases. I love this moment more than anything. And now that I think of it, if anyone ever asks me what I'll miss the most when I graduate and I have to leave Logan's band, or what my favorite part of show days are, I'll know exactly what to say.
