Number 34
If you're a sports fan, you may have noticed the number 34 in all kinds of places. It isn't just used by NBA players like Justin Thomas, but it's also worn by other athletes, especially the ones who have been successful. For example, Austin Carr wore it during his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Similarly, Justin Thomas uses it to symbolize his love for retired Boston Red Sox first baseman David Ortiz. Then there's Moe Dunleavy, who wore it for 18 years and three different teams. Finally, there's Shaq, who has worn the number for more than 15 years and made it to the Finals in two of those years. And not to forget, the original "Dream Shake" was created by Shaq.
The fact that Justin Thomas has been wearing the number 34 since he was a kid shows his passion for sports. 34 All , Bill, was a huge Red Sox fan, so it's no surprise that he has his own number. In addition to sporting the number, he regularly posts about the sport on his social media accounts. He recently appeared on "Call Him Papi" with David Ortiz and Jared Carrabis. As you might expect, Justin is still a big fan of baseball, even after the Yankees lost the World Series. On Christmas, he received gifts from his favorite team, the Red Sox.
One of the biggest names in basketball history to wear the number 34 was Larry Bird. He wore it for four seasons in the ABA, and then for another three in the NBA. After he moved to the NBA, he was selected to play in the All-Star Game, and he was voted NBA Player of the Year for his third season. While he was in the NBA, he won the NBA championship with the Miami Heat. Also, he was named NBA Coach of the Year for the 1988 season.
Another former basketball player to wear the number 34 was Lee Davis, who wore the number for fifteen years. During his time in the NBA, he was named to the All-Star team in 1970, and he was subsequently replaced by Red Robbins. Interestingly, he didn't make the ABA All-Star game in 1970, and he was removed from the team by the ABA's decision to switch to the number 1 during the All-Star Games.
Lastly, there's Shaq, the greatest foreign-born basketball player to ever play in the NBA. He made 12 All-Star appearances with the Houston Rockets, and he won the MVP award in 1994. Despite being an international player, Shaq was able to stick with the same number throughout his career, and he eventually made it to the finals twice. But he did have to endure a rough start, with his first team, the Denver Nuggets, winning only eight games during his rookie year.
