In the early years of his career Anderson Paak Wall Clock was among the most promising newcomers who hit hip-hop and R&B. He earned steady industry accolades, including three Grammy Awards. On his first album, the singer and rapper performed and rapped; however, on the subsequent album the album, he mainly played instruments. He has excelled as a singer on his new album. His voice is more complex and sexually sexy than it has ever been.


Despite the mellowness of his vocals, Ventura doesn't skimp on the grit. The album is packed with hip, fun songs about relationships, not just one-night stands as other pop stars. He's not afraid of speaking out however he isn't pressured to.


The album also is a return to an older style of soul as opposed to his previous albums. He's still an expert in the smoky voice. However, on "Come Home" for example it is a high level of melodrama not seen on his contemporary records. The song is a cry for love, a desperate plea. Although the lyrics are delivered in a hushed tone but they're just as strong as other songs album from his catalog.



His humorous sense of humor comes through on the sleazy, jazzy cover of "Love Is Real" and the subdued-grooved love-song for the mature crowd "Make It More Beautiful." The second track has guest singer Brandy delivering her version of the song with an energetic band that's just as danceable as it is beautiful. The track that is the album's most memorable.


In between, he has been spending time with his mom in Atlanta which is where she lives. Together, they've launched an enterprise that sells strawberries. He is now closer than ever to his parents.
