First read through the text as it were a work of fiction, i.e. do not pause in between and complete the book/section in a single sitting. In the next step you've to read very slowly, repeating every sentences in mind and taking good amount of time to read even a single page. Also try to do the mathematics involved by yourself (based on the knowledge you've gained from first reading). Work out all the examples that occur in between your theory part.Also work out every practice problems corresponding to a section. After this the final reading stage involves you reading like presenting a lecture (very slowly with pure and complete English),i.e. reading on your own rarely looking into the textbook. This much ensures that you've understood the material. However you've to create notes from the book you just used. This includes every points of the book condensed into your own points. For better understanding repeat this for one more textbook.
