The 'Godzilla Plumme is the Biggest Dust Storm of the Past 2 Decades
In June 2020, a huge dust plume, known as the Godzilla Dust Plume, swept across tropical Atlantic ocean, from Africa to the Caribbean Basin, and south-eastern US. The plume caused major air quality disruptions throughout the US and Puerto Rico.

The dust plume formed along the African coast between 13-15 June. It then drifted over Mauritania, pushing into the Caribbean basin. https://www.godzillaplush.com/ , fast-moving convective systems over the Sahara created the plume. It grew to become one of the most significant dust plumes in recent decades.

On 14 June, the plume reached a peak of 3.5 km above the sea level near West Africa and 1.8km above the Caribbean Basin. It then moved northeast to the east coast of Texas, before it weakened into the Gulf of Mexico's south-central Gulf of Mexico. The plume then spread across the Gulf of Mexico and traveled eastward through Texas and Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri. The dust concentrations grew dramatically and the sky became darker in the region. It also affected air quality in many US areas, and experts warn that it can be dangerous to the health of people living there.
