Little Learners Love Literacy

If you search for 'Learning Logic' or Pip and Tim' and can't find the apps, please select 'iPad' from the options available in the top right of your screen . You may also want to try copying the url from Apple Store and paste into Apple School Manager for each app. Each Little Learners assessment manual contains information on how and when to administer.

The Little Learner apps are part of the Apple Education Volume Purchase Plan meaning schools can purchase 20 apps with a 50% discount. The app does not collect any personal information, and does not require an account to use. It has been designed to be used by young children and does not have an age restriction that would require a parent's consent. We recommend that you keep one folder per student throughout Foundation and Year 1. Keep your student summary sheet/s at the front of the folder showing dates of tests, an overview of scores, and your targets/next steps. Also store your score sheets/notes from each assessment behind the student summary sheet for reference.

Read about the evidence and explicit teaching approach underpinning LLLL. This Activity Resource book continues with the same format as Stage 7 Unit 1&2. It covers the phonemes /oo/, /ow/, /oi/, /oo/ focusing on the most common graphemes.

We want to set them up for success and sticking to the sequence will help you to do this. According to reading scientists and an ever-growing body of research, it is now indisputable that decodable, phonic-based readers are most appropriate for beginner readers. In order to improve global reading results, we need to focus on teaching reading skills explicitly. A good quality, synthetic phonics program paired with decodable readers will ensure all students have the best chance of acquiring reading success. The teaching of the sequence should be brisk, with both reading and spelling being taught together. A rich oral language environment is important for the approach to be effective and for students to thrive.

Each weekly literacy planner should follow the Little Learners Love Literacy® teaching sequence. Learning is cumulative and all activities have been designed to provide children with practice and application opportunities using their skills and knowledge. Changing the sequence risks children being asked to read and spell using phonemes, graphemes or morphemes that they have not been explicitly taught yet.

I am currently a kindergarten teacher, but I have experience teaching a wide range of grades from preschool through upper elementary school, both general education and special education. My experience teaching students of all different ages and abilities has helped me grow in my teaching practices. The lessons include opportunities to make phoneme-grapheme connections and matching the sounds we hear to letters in print. Activities from the Teach Activity Resource Book for your week of teaching - Read and Match, Crosswords, What am I? Workplace communication skills , Draw with Mr Shaw and Choose your own adventure are all examples of activities supplied in the TARs for certain weeks of teaching.

Decodable books going home are important - we want children to build fluency and confidence, being engaged by a feeling of success and pride in what they can do. Ensure no new learning is taking place at home - just practise/application of skills and knowledge learned in class. We want to support you as much as we can to explicitly teach our evidence-based program - and to get the most from your LLLL resources. Consistent throughout every series in the PM Family is the solid foundation of careful and meticulous levelling that PM is known for.

Assesses student’s ability to read a short connected text by applying their phoneme-grapheme knowledge, decoding and word recognition skills. Critical thinking and problem-solving strategies training decoding, word recognition, fluency, stamina and literal comprehension including vocabulary. Decodable books are stories written for young or struggling learners to read by ‘decoding’ .

Milo Parent Letters - send home the letter provided for each sound in Stages 1-4 . This explains what you have been teaching and provides ideas for related phonemic awareness activities and discussion to have at home. Word detective - ask children to re-read the book and find words that include the focus phoneme-grapheme correspondence.
