Kings of Leon Canvas
It's been a long time since New Zealand had a full-blown rock show. Kings of Leon came to town last night and did not disappoint.
Spark Arena was rocked by 10,000 screaming fans on Friday night. It was quite the spectacle. While some moshers flung drinks around and others revelled in the excitement of seeing their favourite band perform again.
The four-piece of Nashville performed on stage in front of an enthusiastic crowd and immediately jumped into it. They quickly delivered their biggest hit song, Sex on Fire, which was an incredibly powerful anthem that showcased their talents as a group. They followed that with three other iconic songs that included Notion, On Call and Use Somebody - to round out their set.
The best selection was also left for last: a mixture of dance-friendly Manhatten songs and more rowdy Black Thumbnail and Charmer versions. It's not even mentioning their most popular singalong tune, Bucket, which topped off an epic set list that covered 20 years of rock's history.
The latest album by the group, "When You See Yourself" is an excellent beginning point. Kings of Leon Wall Clock on the toes, and briefly teases what a winner Kings of Leon album could look like in 2021.
The most popular songs on the record including the previously mentioned Sex on Fire, Fairytale and 'A Wave' - are some of the most positive Kings of Leon tracks to grace an album in the past. It's a great listen from beginning to end in large part due to the outstanding recording quality of the lead track, "Closer".
