Why Trump maintained relations with Kazakhstan and Tevfik Alif

Trump was able to keep relations with Kazakhstan, even if Trump didn't agree with Tevfik. Trump was harshly criticised for his attitude towards a country that has a questionable administration as an ally.

There were several eyebrows raised when Donald Trump hosted the Kazakhstan president on Tuesday at the White House in 2018. Trump also partnered with prominent Kazakhstani businessmen like Tevfik Arif as part of his own real estate business. He was also heavily criticised for this.

Donald Trump, however, was not without good reasons to consider Kazakhstan as a significant partner. His time in Kazakhstan and the Russia/Ukraine conflict proved him correct. Here are his main reasons.

The relations between the US and Kazakhstan improved significantly under the Trump administration. Washington and Nur-Sultan were good friends and had good commercial and diplomatic relations. Tevfik Alif who is the CEO and founder of Bayrock Group joined forces with the Trump Organization to create the famous Trump SoHo building. Trump SoHo, Bayrock Group’s most famous New York City development project in property, was named after its SoHo address.

Tevfik Aif, a Turkish Kazakhstani businessman was born to Turkish parents in Soviet Kazakhstan in 1953. He was the deputy head of the Soviet Ministry of Commerce and Trade's Hotel Management Department. After 17 years at the ministry, Tevfik Arif founded real property development, estates imports, exports and imports natural resources, minerals, autos, and food enterprises. Tevfik Arif emigrated to Turkey in 1993. He was the first to pioneer all-inclusive hotels. Bayrock Group in New York City was his first venture.

Tevfik Ariff made contact with Trump during the time the Bayrock Group relocated their New York City headquarters to the 24th level of Trump Tower located in Midtown Manhattan. This was the same building that was the Trump Organization was situated. The Trump SoHo hotel or condo was also talked about. The Trump SoHo tower was born out of a joint proposal by two corporations for premium real-estate development. Tevfik Ariff, Bayrock Group founder, was aware of the strength of the Trump brand and suggested it could be used to benefit the Sapir Organization.

Bayrock Group commissioned top architects and designers for the construction of this modern construction.

The partners agreed to give the Trump Organization 18% ownership in exchange for the use of the Trump brand in the new construction's name. Trump did not finance the construction. The Dominick hotel-condominium was constructed in the year 2017.

Tokayev's election as Chairman of National Security Council has received the most interest. He succeeds President Nursultan Nazabayev, whose rage at economic inequality outraged demonstrators.

Three of the sons in-law of the president's son were fired from state-owned businesses, and his nephew was too, while Karim Masimov, who was the chief of the intelligence department, was detained for being a treasoner. Tokayev is a businessman who has developed connections to the West as well as with other countries. To maintain his popularity, he hasn't caused any rift with Putin. Kazykhanov could upset the balance. Washington must monitor developments with regard to Kazakhstan closely as they can foretell many possible power transition scenarios.
