Mr. Phillipose
Physics Honors
Lab 5 Conclusion
Part 1 Data Table:
Zn+2HCl→ZnCl2+H2
When combined a consistent fizzing reaction was heard. The test tube grew hot where the zinc and acid were combined. When a match was held close to the solution a large popping noise could be heard.
Na(HCO3)+2HCl→2NaCl+2H2O+2CO2
When the baking soda met the acid, it rushed upwards and out of the test tube. When the flame was held over the mouth of the tube it was put out.
MnO2+H2O2→Mn(OH)+H2O+CO2
Black powder mixture caused the match flame to briefly burn brighter as the oxygen was consumed
Part 2
Name of metallic salt
Flame color
Spectral colors
CuCl2
Bright Green
Blue, green, red
CuCl3
Green with Orange (burned quickly)
Blue/violet, dark green, red
KCl
Orange
Mostly orange with blue and red
BACl2
Bright orange, with a bit of green
Green, Blue, Orange
SrCl2
red-orange
Red, blue-green, a little orange
Part 3 Data Table:
Metallic Salts
Precipitate
AgNO3+CuCl2
White chalky solid forms where the silver nitrate reacted with the water
AgNO3+CuSO4
Insoluble AgSO4 is produced in the form of white liquid that fills the test tube
AgNO3+KCl
Produces AgCl which is insoluble in water. AgCl appears as a powder that doesn't settle in the water
AgNO3+BACl2
Produces a white, cloudy substance within the tube and Produces AgCl
AgNO3+SrCl2
silver nitrate. When mixed with strontium chloride. strontium nitrate was produced along with insoluble silver chloride
Part 1:
Part one of Lab 5 involved the identification of gas elements. In the first segment, several materials were
Part 2:
Part two of lab five involved the identification of metallic elements. There were numerous metallic salts used in the experiment including Copper chloride, potassium chloride, barium chloride, and Strontium chloride. When the compound was burned, the non-metallic chlorides were released into the air since the ionic bond was split by the flame’s energy.
During part 2, Hydrochloric acid and baking soda were combined to produce Salt, Water, and carbon dioxide. Another match was held above the solution and it was quickly extinguished since it did not have enough fuel.
