Avanos Medical, FDA and FDA and FDA have issued a Class 1 Recall of approximately 629 units of CORTRAK*2's Ental Access System. https://recalls-rappels.canada.ca/en/alert-recall/cortrak-2-enteral-access-system This feeding tube placement device has been implicated in numerous deaths and injuries.
Avanos Medical feeding tube The recall devices were made available on April 1st 2016, through January 1, 2022. These devices are utilized by healthcare professionals to insert feeding tubes into the stomachs of patients or their intestines.
Nasogastric tubes or Nasoenteric tubes that were incorrectly placed have caused more than 60 injuries and 23 deaths incidents since 2015.
The recall is being utilized to modify the label of the device, which will instruct users to make sure that the tube was properly placed prior to delivering food.
According to FDA the adverse events were respiratory failure, pneumothorax (collapsed lung tissue) perforation (a hole in the bowel or wall of the lungand pneumonia (a lung infection) and Pleural effusion (excess liquid in the space between your lungs and the chest cavity).
