Florences link to Kings College London is nothing to do with her studying at the university- florence was self taught and spent years working hard to educate herslef in the ways of nursing despite opposition from her parents and society as a whole which had a restrictive social code for affluent young english women like florence, expecting them to marry and become mothers rather than have careers and be successful independently.
Florences link to Kings began in 1860 when she set up the Nightingale training school established at St Thomas' Hospital. This was funded by money raised due to huge public interest and support of her extraudinary work in the crimian war and was the world's first school of nursing. This training school developed, collaberated and grew over the years and is now the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at King's College London.
