Avanos Medical, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) company is recalling Cortrak*2 the enteral access system due to misplacement nasoenteric tubes or nasogastric tubs which could have led to injuries or even death of patients. The recall includes 629 devices that were available within the United States.
Avanos has launched the Cortrak*2 Entraal Access System to help with the installation of a medical-feeding tube. Avanos Medical Patients are at risk of damage to their vocal cords, lungs or the trachea, if a tube is not correctly placed. Avanos Medical According to Avanos Medical's recall communication there have been 60 incidents of injury and 23 deaths of patients since 2015 related to misplacement of feeding tubes for nasogastric patients using the CORTRAK* 2 Enteral Access System. The injuries can be described as pneumothorax, respiratory failure and perforation. These are all types of lung collapse.

Cortrak 2 eternal access system Avanos is the second alert that the FDA has issued in relation to feeding tubes that are intra-oral. In February the FDA issued a warning for parents and healthcare professionals regarding the risk of strangulation when children are fed by feeding tubes. Two instances of strangulation in children that involved feeding tubes wrapped around the necks of patients have been reported before 2021.
