อัตราส่วน
องค์ประกอบของงานออกแบบ ิยมใช้มาตราส่วน 1:50 และก็ 1:100 ในการเขียนแผนผังพื้นตึกอาศัยอยู่ ดังนี้จำเป็นต้องดูให้เหมาะเจาะกับหน้ากระดาษด้วย โดยธรรมดาถ้าอาคารขนาดเล็กใช้มาตราส่วน 1:50 ถ้าอาคารขนาดใหญ่ขึ้นใช้มาตราส่วน 1:100 แล้วก็ถ้าตึกมีขนาดใหญ่มาก ดังเช่นว่า แผนผังพื้นของโรงงานขนาดใหญ่ ใช้มาตราส่วน 1:200 ได้ และเมื่อใช้อัตราส่วน 1:50 กับแผนผังพื้น ก็ควรใช้อัตราส่วน 1:50 กับแบบอื่นๆอีกทั้งอาคารด้วย
โดยแบ่งมาตราส่วนที่ใช้สำหรับในการเขียนแบบออกเป็น 3 ประเภท ดังนี้
อัตราส่วนจริง ขนาดของชิ้นงานที่วาดแบบจะมีขนาดเท่าของจริง สัญลกัษณ์ 1 : 1
มาตรราส่วนย่อ ขนาดของแบบงานจะย่อเล็กลงตามสมควร สัญลกัษณ์ 1 : 50
มาตราส่วนขยาย ขนาดของแบบงานจะขยายใหญ่มากยิ่งกว่า แบบจริงที่ระบุ สัญลกัษณ์ 2 : 1
เส้น
ต้องพิจารณาถึงความสม่ำเสมอของเส้น น้ำหนัก หรือความครึ้มของเส้นที่ใช้เฉพาะงาน และก็ประสิทธิภาพของเส้น
ความดกของเส้น เส้นที่เขียนในแบบควรจะมีความดกไม่เหมือนกันตามความหมายโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งของเส้นนั้นเช่น เส้นหนามาก ควรจะใช้แสดงเป็นเส้นขอบนอกของรูปตัด เส้นบางใช้เขียนเส้นมิติ เป็นต้น
จำพวกของเส้นมีดังนี้ เส้นบาง เส้นดก เส้นหนามาก ความหนาของเส้นที่ใช้มีขนาด 0.13, 0.18, 0.25, 0.35,
0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.4 และ 2.0 มิลลิเมตร
ความหนาของเส้นที่ใช้ในแต่ละแบบใช้ทั้ง 3 ขนาดตามอัตราส่วน 1:2:4 ยกตัวอย่างเช่น เส้นบาง ใช้ขนาดเส้น 0.13 มิลลิเมตร เส้นหนา ใช้ขนาดเส้น 0.25 มิลลิเมตร เส้นหนามาก ใช้ขนาดเส้น 0.5 มิลลิเมต
หรือถ้าหากเป็นรูปที่มายี่ห้อส่วนขยายใหญ่ขึ้นเป็น 1:20 ขนาดของเส้นที่ใช้ก็บางทีอาจใหญ่ขึ้นอีกทั้ง 3 ขนาด ดังเช่น ขนาด 0.18 มิลลิเมตร ขนาด 0.35 มิลลิเมตร แล้วก็ขนาด 0.7 มิลลิเมตร ฯลฯ
ถ้าใช้ดินสอ เส้นบางอาจจะใช้เกรด H เส้นครึ้มใช้ HB แล้วก็เส้นหนามากใช้ B เมื่อเขียนบนกระดาษวาดภาพ ฯลฯ
