How to Play the Thai Lotto
The Thai Lotto is a state-run lottery. It is the only legal form of gambling in Thailand. You can play it to win big cash prizes. This lottery is widely popular among Thais. They spend over 76 billion baht on lottery tickets each year. However, the odds of winning are very low. So, you have to use a lot of caution if you want to play.

Unlike other lotteries, the Thai Lotto is a well-organized and regulated lottery. There are three main offices in Bangkok where lottery drawings take place. In addition to that, you can check the results of the draws online.

There are two types of lottery tickets available: the Thai Government Lottery (TGL) ticket and the Thai Charity Lottery (TCL) ticket. Each ticket has two prize amounts. The first prize is B3 million, while the bonus prize is 30 million baht. To buy a ticket, you must purchase it from a lottery vendor. These vendors are registered with the GLO. Alternatively, you can also purchase a ticket directly from the GLO.

To qualify for the jackpot, you have to choose six numbers. The numbers are printed on the ticket and are coated with special chemicals. Those with higher prizes are paid out by cheque, and those with lower prizes are cashed out at authorized retail outlets.

A draw is held on the first and the 16th of each month. Results are released around 5 p.m. on the day of the drawing. You can watch the result live on TV, if you are in Thailand. The number of tickets printed per year was 180 million in 1974. The tickets are made of yellow paper with a two-tone watermark. Besides that, there are anti-counterfeiting features in the tickets. Ticket prices start from 80 baht for individual tickets and range up to 120 baht for the bigger prizes. Nevertheless, it is advised that you do not buy the lottery tickets for more than 120 baht.

In the past, the "jackpot" prizes were 22 or 30 million baht. As a result, the public blamed brokers for overpricing their tickets.
