During the last few months of my husband's life, I had the inspiration to plant 100 feet of roses in front of our house. My husband was dying of multiple myeloma cancer. We had exhausted all the possibilities of a recovery. His cancer was in the late stages when it was discovered and none of the treatments were working.

Tell the child why the pet died, but briefly. "He was very ill or very old." There is no need to try to guess what the child is asking you. If they ask "Was she sick?" that is what they need to know right now. Answering simply "Yes, she was very sick." is enough for now.


The people are all so afraid of death. They want to live forever. They hate Death. How could they not? Death is frightening, to be sure. It always wins. And it will come for everyone eventually, because no one can cheat death.

Different studies of clinical death and near-death experience show amazingly common elements in the witnessing of the survivors. During the process of dying, most of them hear how doctors pronounced them dead. They also report how they have seen their lifeless bodies lying below them; this scene most often shocks them, as they are first time looking upon themselves outside their bodies surrounded by doctors, nurses, or relatives.

This is all a possibility we can count on. What we wanted to say here is that our bodies in this physical world are only vehicles for our souls. Death is only a transition process toward a greater and more beautiful reality where our true selves can fulfill our true destinies. Death is not the end. Don't be afraid.
