A pair of half-brothers lay in wait for the older sibling’s ‘Humpty Dumpty’ love rival – after they returned from a trip to pub bingo, a court heard.
Mark Meadows, 25, and younger half-brother Travis Gorton, 20, were said by prosecutor Vanessa Marshall KC to have been let into the garden of Keith Green’s home in Howard Road, Banbury, after 11pm on February 13.
They waited in the shed for 40-year-old Green to walk down the path then knifed him in what Gorton later said ‘became a bit of a brawl’, jurors were told.
The younger brother was said to have told a friend on the night of the alleged murder: “We stabbed him.”
It was said Gorton – who, together with Meadows and three others, denies murder – confessed to washing his hands in bleach following the stabbing, burning their clothes and trainers, and discarding the knives in a nearby field.

Day one: Updates as Banbury ‘murder’ trial Day two: Prosecutor continues opening case against accuseds The motive for the alleged murder is said by prosecutors to have been Meadows’ jealous dislike for love rival Keith Green, the father of two of Louise Grieve’s children. Meadows had given Mr Green the nickname ‘Humpty Dumpty’ in messages with one co-defendant.
Prosecutors claim that Grieve, 37, and her son Callum Johnson, 20, were also ‘in’ on the plan to murder Mr Green.
On Tuesday, jurors heard that on the night of the stabbing, Grieve, Meadows and Gorton had all gone to the bingo at the local Pepper Pot pub.

Meadows and Grieve were ‘lovey dovey’, Ms Marshall told jurors. CCTV showed them kissing and hugging in the pub garden – although while at the boozer Grieve was also said to have sent Mr Green a message telling him: “Baby, I f***ing love you.”
Earlier that day, it was said that Mr Green had seen Meadows’ messages on Grieve’s phone. He told her: “I think you need to be honest with me, Lou. If you don’t really want to be with me you need to say. https://www.zitobox.com/ I won’t be mad.”
Meadows drove Gorton and Grieve back from the pub to 42 Howard Road at around 11.05pm. Grieve was said to have crept into the living room and asked Kieron White – at the property to ‘chill’ with Callum Johnson – ‘where’s Keith?’
The half-brothers were allegedly let into the garden through a heavy side gate, with prosecutors claiming they turned-off the power to a CCTV camera fixed to the garden shed at 11.08pm.

Johnson and his uncle, Tony Simms, left the house at 11.24pm to buy cocaine, jurors were told, and were out of the house at the time of the stabbing.
While Grieve was lying on the living room floor, drunkenly giggling, Meadows and Gorton were said to have rushed in.
Meadows was bloodied, with a long knife hanging from his belt. He allegedly told his beloved: “He’s all dealt with.” Prosecutors say Grieve replied: “What you on about? What’s all the banging about? What’s going on?”

The brothers left Grieve and Mr White in the house, Ms Marshall told the jury. The woman was said to have begged her son’s friend to check on ‘Keith’, saying: “What have they done to him?”
Both went to the garden, where Mr Green was allegedly lying on the rain-soaked ground with a stab wound to his belly. Mr White asked Grieve several times to call for an ambulance although she did not, the jury was told.
He returned to the house to find Mr Simms at the front door. It was Mr Simms – Grieve’s brother – who called 999 at 11.35pm, and his sister performed CPR under the direction of the emergency service call handler. The first paramedics arrived at the scene at 11.44pm, with Mr Green pronounced dead by the time police officers arrived 11 minutes later.
The jury heard that Mr White, who left the property after speaking to Mr Simms, was told by Callum Johnson: “It was all a set up; I thought they were going down and beat him up I didn’t know he was going to get stabbed.”
Data from Meadows’ van – a Vauxhall Vivaro Amazon delivery van – showed the half-brothers got back to the older sibling’s Rees Court flat by 11.37pm.
In a call with his brother’s friend Ryan Cope, Gorton allegedly confessed to involvement in the stabbing. He said he had showered, washed his hands with bleach, ditched the knives and burned their clothing.
In another set of messages between Gorton and his girlfriend Ellie Kerr, which were read to the jury by Ms Marshall, the alleged stabber was said to have asked her to delete their WhatsApp conversations.
Ms Marshall will continue the prosecution opening of the case tomorrow.
Meadows, of Rees Court, Banbury, Gorton, of Well Bank, Hook Norton, Grieve and Johnson, of Howard Road, Banbury, and a youth who cannot be identified for legal reasons all deny murder. Meadows and Gorton have also pleaded not guilty to possession of a bladed article.
