Young children look forward to their birthdays. They feel proud about growing older as they will be able to behave like grown-ups and imitate them. As they grow older birthdays remind them of mortality, that everything has to come to an end and that we all have to die when our time on earth is up. We normally try to ignore the fact that we are going to pass away and that people will attend our funeral. But expiring without being covered under Funeral expense insurance will result in a hard time for the family members of the departed soul.

This was either done with swords or other primitive weapons, eventually evolving to include the use of guns. Imagine if it was still acceptable today to fight someone to the death, because they wronged you in some way. Or perhaps you simply just don't like each other. People would be dieing left and right. The most acceptable form of killing that has stuck with us from the beginning is war fare. In this case we do not have one or two people killing but a large number of people killing each other.


The old handyman was a familiar sight in Eagan Creek. Dressed in his usual attire, faded bib overalls, a plaid flannel shirt and a sweat-stained brown fedora, folks treated him more so as an oddity than as a hired workman. Strange and aloof, he didn't fit into this tight-knit community. People found him unsettling, especially those gray eyes hiding behind steel-rimmed glasses--haunting, suspicious. And the deep wrinkles in his face left questions, maybe a vengeful and unforgiving life? Sometimes he could be abrupt and thick-headed. Yet he was a capable worker, even at seventy-one years, lean of body, hair nearly white. Somehow, he managed a meager existence, watching his pennies, working a half-day here, an hour there.

"Honey, Miss Kitty died last night. She's probably gone up to sit on Grandma's lap and keep her company." Give some time for the initial words to sink in and be prepared for whatever reaction. Most children can handle the word "died" much better than we give them credit for. By all means, you can put forward any religious belief you wish, but take the mystery out of it for the child and tell them the truth. Kids appreciate the truth. They need to know they can trust you, especially in times of crisis.

The advantage of an actual insurance policy is that the money can be used in any way the beneficiary needs to use it. A portion could be paid to the funeral home. But anything left over could be spent on other bills, or even saved for the beneficiary's own use.

Next, be selective. Choose what you are going to think about. It's your mind. They are your memories. Set time to remember, and remember all the good things about the person you have loved.




"In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses according to the riches of his grace" (Ephesians 1:7). And God's grace is full of riches. His grace is entirely free. God's grace is not a response of our worth because we are not worthy but only deserve wrath. Yet, God's grace is not a response of our unworthiness. God gave us grace because He chose. He loved us because He loved us.
