The staff is courteous and professional and the karaoke nights are legendary.

In the beginning, blacks could be a part of the club at first, but it featured many of the most popular entertainers of the time including musicians Fletcher Henderson, Duke Ellington, Jimmie Lunceford, Chick Webb, Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Fats Waller; vocalists Adelaide Hall, Ethel Waters, Cab Calloway, Bessie Smith, Aida Ward, Avon Long, the Dandridge Sisters, the Will Vodery Choir, Nina Mae McKinney, Billie Holiday, Lena Horne and dancers Katherine Dunham, Bill Robinson The Nicholas Brothers, Charles 'Honi' Coles, Leonard Reed, Stepin Fetchit, and Earl Snakehips Tucker.
The Cotton Club was temporarily closed in 1936 after an riot broke out in Harlem. It was reopened at Broadway and 48th Street. The owners of the club believed that the Cotton Club would succeed in this new location.
