小朋友哭鬧若用約束方式來進行治療，速度雖快，但很有可能造成小朋友看牙陰影，甚至可能會影響到成年時期。 恆牙是第二副牙齒，最先萌發的是在六歲時的第一大臼齒，大約在十二歲時萌發第二大臼齒，因此六歲到十二歲是孩子的換牙階段。
多數寶寶在長牙的時候，長牙處會有红、腫、熱、痛的局部反應，此外長牙時牙床容易感到不舒服，有些幼兒甚至會有輕微發燒、腹瀉或是牙床有血腫，每個寶寶出現的症状不同，有的小孩在長牙時甚至不會有感覺。 術後需間隔 2 小時才可進食，可先飲用少量溫開水後無不適，才可喝飲料， 爾後無不適再進行清淡食物，待進食穩定後給予正常飲食。
乳牙的臼齒要到九歲、十歲才會換牙，因此當乳臼齒在早期就蛀太大而需要抽神經時，醫師會在抽完神經後建議您為小朋友做不鏽鋼牙套，不但可以恢復牙齒的咀嚼功能，還能避免牙齒咬硬物時崩塌。 圖一、二治療前：小朋友後牙有嚴重的齲齒，無法咀嚼食物並造成疼痛。 圖三、四治療後：後牙經過根管治療後，醫師為小朋友做不鏽鋼牙套，不但可以恢復牙齒的咀嚼功能，還能避免牙齒咬硬物時崩塌。
含氟牙膏可保護牙齒不受酸性侵襲，並堅固牙齒，修補被酸侵襲的牙釉質，减弱產酸细菌的活躍。 治療結束返家後請勿安排戶外行程，並維護口腔清潔，若出現口腔突然出血，呼吸困難及嘔吐不適情形，請立即告知醫護人員，口腔內傷口疼痛可服用止痛藥改善。
