Cyndy was probably playing the dealer role during the sprint to money. However, I doubt she could have won the flop. There was a lot going on at the table. Minimum bet was $0 50; maximum bet $1,00. There was one player behind me who bet $2,50. I had the flush draw and called.

8 Q 8 was the Flop

This was dangerous for me, as the board was unsuited. Simons was holding As-8h on Simons' board. If the Ace and King did not pair up, there was a chance of a straight and/or flush on my board. In case the Ace or King did pair up, the hand went from unsuited to slightly favored to my hand. The flop almost turned up a monster hand, which was very dangerous for me.

However, the 8 on board didn't help. The three other players raised. They expected an 8 on my turn, which wouldn't have helped me. Overall, I didn't have much to lose with this hand. I should have placed a bet on Either that I had pocket Kings and Aces.

The Turn card, the 8h, was my turn card. Even though I had a monster hand, my odds of winning were not good. I had about a 35% chance of hitting the bottom end of a straight. The flop was most likely one of the following.

A-8h

K-8h

J-8h

Q-8h

In order to get any value out of the Q-8h I had to haul it around the board and that wasn't easy with an 8-hand. It wasn't like I had many outs, but a 9-draw, and a T-9 come draw were all out cards to me.

Because I had no straight chance, the equity that I was getting was not very strong. If I hit Q-8h, it was only canceling out a slightly higher hand; 10-8 and 9-9. This was not even an opportunity filled straight.

However, I didn’t have any hand so I checked.

The SB placed $1100 immediately.

This was Hawkins-type hands, where you must call to see the flip if you don’t hit anything. As he had checked, I had no reason not to believe that he was wrong.

I calculated I had about 35% chance of hitting Q-8h. Since I have always been a big bet on pushing out other hands, it was natural to wonder: "If the dude checks my hand, what difference does it make?"

He then showed Q-8h!

I could still get some value out of the hand by calling another $1,100 bet on the river. I assumed that the guy would have won the Q-8h if he had been really successful (which would be very funny).

I called.

The turn was Q-8h.

I'm going to have to win the coin flip or get the rake. I think if I make a continuation and he hits on the side, then I am ahead.

I bet $2,000.

He thinks for a moment and folds.
