Humans share two realities with each other and all other living things--birth and death. I know it's been the church's traditional teaching for eons that both dying and death are the consequences of the first couple's rebellion in the Garden of Eden. But there's an alternative perspective I've written about in one of my books. It is a perspective far more consistent with Judeo-Christian teachings and certainly more consistent with nature and biology.



Are they an organ donor? If so talk with the hospital and see if a donation is still possible. Some donations can be made several hours following death. Others need to be made a head of time.

This was either done with swords or other primitive weapons, eventually evolving to include the use of guns. Imagine if it was still acceptable today to fight someone to the death, because they wronged you in some way. Or perhaps you simply just don't like each other. People would be dieing left and right. The most acceptable form of killing that has stuck with us from the beginning is war fare. In this case we do not have one or two people killing but a large number of people killing each other.


I've personally grieved the loss of family members and dear friends; however, recently I experienced, for the first time, a slow, impending death. I watched my 91 year old Mother for months as she made her transition. I watched her body return to the fetal position, her frail skeletal frame show protruding bones and unpreventable decubitus ulcers, feeding tube challenges, and constant pain. Through it all, though, she never lost her warm smile and her tenacity to fight. I marveled at her strength and wonder if I could ever have that much fortitude. I watched her peacefully die, at home, in her sleep, just as she had said she wanted to die.

When DEATH conquers a thing, we consider that thing "Dead". Eventually, this powerful force will end your LIFE physically separating your Spirit from this world completely. But the ultimate goal of this force is not to end your physical life; it wants to end your life spiritually by separating you eternally from your maker, the GOD of all creation.

Sometimes trying to make sense out of the death seems fruitless. For example, how do you find meaning in the death of four-month-old child (this happened to me)? I eventually was able to come to terms with it. Still, searching for the cause of the experience and pulling meaning from it with a trusted friend or relative is useful. We need others at this time to be with us when we are in pain. Look for the right person as you try to make sense of your loss.
