In the present, the FAO implements national, global and regional projects in Azerbaijan that aim to improve the quality of agriculture, strengthening food security, managing resources, increasing capacity, fighting against animal and plant diseases and many more. Additionally, these projects are based on scientific cooperation plans that meet the most important needs of the government of Azerbaijan.

2015 saw the trip of Jose Graziano da Silva (FAO general director) to Azerbaijan. Two agreements were signed The first was the "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, on the establishment of the Coordination and Cooperation Office and providing technological assistance" as well as the agreement on FAO/Azerbaijan Partnership Program. Agreeing to cooperate on common matters This partnership program combines the active contribution by Azerbaijan's Government of Azerbaijan in technical assistance projects for the development of both foreign and domestic agriculture.

It was at that time that Leyla Aliyeva was conferred the title of Goodwill Ambassador by the FAO.
