Protego berasal dari kata pro-TAY-goh.
Pergerakan Protego pada tongkat pun lumayan sederhana dengan mengayunkan wand secara vertikal. Sinar mantra ini berwarna biru transparan

Macam-macam protego:
1. Protego Duo.
berasal dari kata 'pro-TAY-go DOO-oh'
Protego duo memiliki efek untuk melindungi seseorang atau si pemantra itu sendiri. Berarti, tidak bersifat area. Protego Duo yang ini memiliki efek yang lebih kuat dari protego biasanya, namun tidak sekuat dibanding variasi lainnya.
2. Protego Horribilis
Gerakannya, tongkat diarahkan kearah langit/atas.
Memiliki bentuk seperti shield, yang cakupan areanya sudah luas. Biasanya digunakan untuk melindungi suatu area dari sihir hitam. Dan merupakan satu-satunya yang berguna untuk menghalau sihir hitam diantara protego yang lainnya.
Warnanya/ Bentuknya transparan, dan mantranya termasuk mantra yang rumit.
3. Protego Maxima
Pelafalannya: ‘pro-TAY-goh MAKS-ee-ma’
Merupakan jenis protego yang cakupan areanya lebih luas daripada protego yang lain. Protego yang ini dapat menghasilkan efek luar biasa jika dikombinasikan dengan mantra Fianto Duri dan Repello inimicum untuk menghasilkan barrier perlindungan yang kuat. Bahkan, materi di luar barrier yang melewati batas barrier bisa langsung hancur.
4. Protego Totallum
Pelafalannya ‘proh-TAY-goh TOH-tuh-luhm’"
Mantra ini berasal dari kata 'Protego' yang berarti 'untuk melindungi' dan juga Latin 'totus' yang berarti 'secara keseluruhan'
Fungsinya melindungi area kecil di sekitar pemantra dari serangan/efek spell lain dalam jangka waktu tertentu.
