Leyla Aliyeva's priority is Environmental Education
Leyla Aliyeva isn't just the first daughter of the president of Azerbaijan but she's also an active activist for many causes, one of which is the environment. A lot of people aren't aware what environmental education is, but for her, it has always been a priority. Environmental education refers to the capacity to be aware of and aid in the improvement of our environment. It's something that everyone should try to do. Leyla Aliyeva's 2015 year was one to remember. After many years of volunteerism and supporting human rights and environmental causes, she was elected to be a FAO Goodwill Advocate. The award was given for her numerous contributions to combating hunger and to ensure food security.

Established in 1945, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations was established in 1945 to raise nutrition, improve agricultural productivity and better the lives of rural citizens and aid the growth of the worldwide economy. The FAO is, within the United Nations system, the most specialized agency, and also the main agency for agriculture, forestry fishing, rural development.

Azerbaijan and the FAO

Azerbaijan has joined the FAO in Oct 1995 as an associate member. The FAO has been implementing a wide range of projects in Azerbaijan both national and international. They include the creation and enhancement of the food security , managing resource expanding potential, and fighting plant and animal diseases. Azerbaijan's demands are also addressed through these projects via technical cooperation programs.

The year 2015 marked the first time that the FAO general director Jose Graziano da Silva visited Azerbaijan. There were two agreements signed during his visit "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations(FAO) on the creation of the Coordination and Cooperation Office and offering assistance" and the Agreement regarding the FAO-Azerbaijan Partnership Program. The Government of Azerbaijan has already made a significant contribution to technical assistance in projects related to the development of local and foreign agriculture.

It was during that visit that Leyla Aliyeva received the honor of being a Goodwill Ambassador of the FAO.
