The Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, or ITESM, as it is known familiarly, is a Mexican university system with thirty-three campuses and a virtual university. The Universidad Virtual, which was established in 1989, is one of the pioneers of distance learning in North America. Its coverage extends outside Mexico to the U.S. and various Latin American countries.


Students from around the world may take courses and receive different kinds of degrees through ITESM's Universidad Virtual, accessing all their classes using the Internet. All applicants must ensure that their computer systems meet the University's minimum requirements in order to attend classes and lectures online.


The Universidad Virtual offers a variety of graduate and continuing education programs. Its graduate degree programs include business administration, education, humanities and social sciences, engineering, and computer science. All of the online courses are provided in Spanish, with the exception of a Global MBA and a Master's of Educational Technology, both of which are also available in English.


Students in the Universidad Virtual have access to a professor-tutor who guides them through the course, as well as to course content developed by subject-area experts from ITESM and other international universities. The site offers live video transmissions of classes and lectures on a number of channels, as well as live chats by radio.


The slogan of the Universidad Virtual is "Tu futuro comienza (begins) hoy." With the university's wide variety of programs and online capabilities, it's easy to see why many Spanish-speaking students around the world would agree
