House Boat Floor Plans
For each type of boat, be sure to inquire about what comes with it. Are paddles included or are the extra? What about lines and ropes? Is an anchor included?

Just for the benefit of anyone who is new to boating, the bilge space should not be forgotten, it should be checked regularly. As mentioned before, to pull a part inventory or greater extent the bilge will slowly, over time, fill with water. This may be as a result of rain leaking in, condensation, prop shaft seal leakage, external fittings leaking or even collision damage. We need a convenient way to empty the bilge space without it being inconvenient. This is why bilge pumps are fitted.

Depending on what you want to use the boat for, you may need to decide about the construction and hull material. GRP is the usual choice, but there are others.. All materials have their issues and need maintenance.

A power inverter to give you mains power from your batteries. On small boats you will be limited by the size of your battery bank. Our 30 foot boat has 4 leisure batteries and a 1500 watt inverter. We find that when cruising we can manage on an overnight basis to live in a civilized fashion, but we do not have the power to use an automatic washer for instance. This has to wait either until we get mains power or find a launderette.

Let us be mindful about what we have set our hearts on. Let us be careful of how closely we get tied to the things we own. Are they so important? It's nice to have a home and I really love the home I'm in, but we have to be careful that we don't get so tied to things that they become a part of us. We aren't our things. They are just things.

If you're going to buy a boat from a private seller then take your time to make your mind up. Inspect the boat carefully; look for scratches, cracks, dents and other damage. Test the cables and the steering. You could even consider hiring a professional boat surveyor to carry out a complete certified inspection. It might seem costly at the time but it can give you the peace of mind of knowing you got a great deal, and haven't been sold down the Suwannee.

11:40am: The guide, Anil, gives a brief history of houseboating in Kerala, the particular boat we are lucky enough to be sailing on, and his own unusual career. Anil speaks Malayalam, English, Hindi and German. Ma, and hence my lady, happen to be descended from Germans. 'The bond' is made.

Another benefit is more meaningful family communication... Since a houseboat rentals lake powell is much smaller than a conventional home, with very little if any personal space... You have the benefits of good family communication that comes from living in a smaller area.

In all the years I've been going to Florida for winter breaks, I've always wanted to see a Manatee, but never had. I usually never got further than Melbourne, where my Friend Bruce Hodgkins lived in this little trailer park with a few roommates, off of John Rhodes Blvd.
