An Unforgettable Story About Bali Diving

In 1982 I worked as an English speaking tourist guide, but throughout my leisure time I learned Italian language by my own approach autodidact using English-- Italian; Italian-- English dictionary and grammar book. In October 1982 one of my pal who run a travel representative in Bali asked me to manage his clients, they were Italian and speak a little English. When I satisfied them at Bali International Airport, the very first concern I need to address was "where is the finest location to dive".

I visited my buddy's house and meet Bli Monyoh, a fisherman live in Sanur the town on the southeast coast of Bali. I knew he was an excellent fisherman and extremely smart in shooting fish, diving with his own skill using really easy dive equipment.

Dives at a few meters depth was rewarded by beautiful underwater panoramas, table and prize shaped coral and sponges, a thousand of colorful fishes swim by in kaleidoscopic abundances. I am not a swimmer or a diver, I just sit on the boat and prepared the requirements when they increase. Was a wonderful day.

The 2nd day Bli Monyoh brought his buddy a clever scuba diver named Agung Toya, together with them some weapon (exactly an arrow) unwound by a strong rubber band made of tire. Prior to living Sanur, Bli Monyoh laid an offering and scented incense in front of a temple and hoped to God.

When we arrived at Buitan was an extremely standard fishing village, situated at the district of Manggis Karangasem eastern Bali near Candidasa, I was impressed by the charm of the nature, an incredible panorama or the terraces ricefield, rural environment and the Majestic Mount Agung at the far back, for Bali it is the place of the Supreme God "The Navel of the World". The sea was splendid, clear blue water, stayed untouched by contemporary impacts, seduce everybody specifically beach and dive fans. When we were preparing everything for dive a cordial local male came close to us and gave his own wooden boat utilized free of charge in the hope people catching a lot of fish. We sailed at 09.00 a.m in calm sea. About 50 m from the beach we arrived on the coral reef where the wave breaks itself. Under excellent weather we could see a fantastic undersea world amongst the coral reefs.

My Italian clients brought their own dive devices due to the fact that they were the holder of PADI license. While the native scuba divers utilized their own talent. Wow, wow, wow, what an excellent day, we fished a lot (only chosen fish), something surprised me that Bli Monyoh got 4 king lobsters. At 11.00 a.m. we finished our adventure and the local male was waiting us on the beach ready with his woods fire, chili, onions, salt, coconut and garlic oil. We grilled our fish in relax environment on the beach with great breeze of the ocean, than taken pleasure in a scrumptious gala lunch in cowboy style. Wow fantastic, we really commemorated and took pleasure in an excellent day.

Now in Bali there are some interesting and amazing, world distinguished dive websites: Nusa Dua, Sanur, Padang Bay, Gili Tapekong, Tulamben, Amed, Nusa Penida and Lembongan and Menjangan Island.
