Coefficient, A Number that is Multiplied by a Variable or Variables.
Constant Term, A Term that Consists of only a Number.
Factor, A Number that is Multiplied by another Number to get a Product.
Quantity, An Expression inside Grouping Symbols. For example, 2(5+x) is read as “2 times the quantity 5 plus x.”
Quantity, (2) A characteristic (such as Length or Amount of Time) that can be Measured.
Term, A Number, a Variable, or Numbers and Variables Multiplied together; Terms are separated by Addition or Subtraction.
Variable, A Quantity that changes (usually represented by a letter or Symbol).
Variable, (2) A letter representing an unknown Value or a Value that can change.
Vary, To show changing characteristics.
EXAMPLES (Math)
Expression with 1 Term: 3x (Term)
Expression with 2 Terms: 3x+2 (Term)
Expression with 3 Terms: 3x+2−y (Term)
In the Expression 4n, 4 and n are Factors. (Factor)
In the Expression 3x+7y+9z, the Numbers 3, 7, and 9 are Coefficients. (Coefficient)
If there is no Number Multiplied by a Variable, the Coefficient is 1. (Coefficient)
In the Expression 3x+2−y, the Number 2 is a Constant Term. (Constant Term)
4x+1
The expression has two terms, 4x and 1.
The term 4x is the product of two factors, 4 and x.
The expression contains one coefficient, 4, and one constant term, 1.
3(x+5)
The expression 3(x+5) has two factors, 3 and x+5.
The factor x+5 has two terms, x and 5.
The factor x+5 has one constant term, 5.
