Minecraft: how to Play with Friends on other Platforms Using Cross-play

Minecraft is a great game to play with friends, and you can cross-play with them no matter the platform, so long as you have the same version.



This means that you can only play with players who have the Java Edition of Minecraft. This is the same for the Bedrock Edition. If you have multiple versions, you'll have to purchase the other version to play with.



All of the platforms that run Minecraft Bedrock Edition can play together. This includes the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC, and mobile devices. To access this, you will require a Microsoft account. Your Xbox account, if you have one, will work. Otherwise you can make one for free here.



If you have a Microsoft account, you'll need to ensure that you've added the friend you'd like to play with on that account. This will often require inviting a friend to their Xbox Gamertag.



Once that's sorted and you're ready to be a part of the same team.



Joining a friend's gaming group



If your friend is currently playing in their own hosted session, you can join them right through the game. bengawan As long as you're friends through Microsoft you can join their session by scrolling over to the Friends tab and looking under "Joinable Cross-Platform Friends."



The sessions can only accommodate eight people at one time.



A pop-up will be displayed when you are invited to join the session. You can accept or decline.



Invite friends to your game



To invite friends, you can use the start menu in the game. There will be a sidebar inviting you to invite your friends. When you click "invite" you can invite friends to join in your game.



You must be aware of which permissions your session has (visible in settings). You can alter it so that people joining your session can only view your world, or let them play freely creating and breaking blocks. You can even grant them admin privileges. These rights can be granted individualally by clicking on the yellow icon that is next to their names.



Utilizing Realms to play Multiplayer



Players can also join Realms which are servers that stay online all the time and don't require a host to be playing at the moment.



You can send invites to your Realm through the Friends tab or invite them via the link when playing on the PC. Clicking the link will launch the Minecraft app. Console players will need friends to invite them.



Once you have joined the Realm, you can return at any time you like from the Friends tab. The Reams you've joined will be listed under "Joinable Realms," as long as the Realm is active. (Keep in mind that Realms are limited to 11 players in the time, so if you can't join, it's possible that there are too many players there.)
