How to Get Minecraft on Chromebook
You can play Minecraft on Windows and Linux, macOS, as well as mobile devices such Android or iOS. Unfortunately, there is no version of Minecraft has ever been created for the Chromebook. Double-click the Minecraft.deb file and then click the Install button to install Minecraft into the Linux virtual machine on your Chromebook.
After the installation has been completed Once the installation is complete, start the App Drawer Click on the Linux folder, and then choose Minecraft Launcher.
If you encounter an error during installation, you need to start the Terminal app from the app drawer and enter the following Linux commands to install the latest version of the Java Development Kit:
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get upgrade
- sudo apat-get install default JDK
This will launch Minecraft for Chromebook. The login window will pop up. Log into your Minecraft account and begin playing Minecraft! When you launch the game, the application will download the latest release to your Linux container and install the update.
The Demo can be played without purchasing Minecraft. To play the full versionof Minecraft, you'll need to click the Buy Now button and purchase Minecraft Java Edition.
How to Play Minecraft on Chromebook
Minecraft will run fine on your Chromebook after using the steps above to install it. However, you may notice that the game to be slow or your mouse may not work quite right. There are a few Chromebook settings you can alter to improve performance and reduce the possibility of encountering bugs.
Chrome Flags are enabled
Enable Chrome flags. The following flags will enhance your Minecraft playing experience. If you don’t see any flags below, it indicates that the flag is not accessible on your Chromebook. It is not necessary to enable the flag.
You can enable all the flags listed below by opening the Chrome browser and typing (or pasting!) the URL into the URL. Then, click Enabled from the dropdown menu.

Optimize Minecraft Settings for Chromebook
To optimize Minecraft settings on Chromebook to optimize settings on your Chromebook, press Esc while you are in-game and select Options from the menu. Select Video Settings. The following settings are adjustable.
Graphics Fast
Smooth Lighting: Off
Render Distance: 10 chunks
Max Framerate: 30 fps
Clouds: Off
Particles are minimal
Entity Shadows: OFF
Install OptiFine in Minecraft
If you own a less expensive Chromecast device and are finding that Minecraft is still running a bit slow even after updating the settings above, you can install OptiFine for Minecraft. This app improves the framerate on lower-end Chromebooks. Download the latest version, then place it in your Linux file folder, and then launch the Terminal window type.
java -jar OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5.jar
(Replace the file's name by the name of the file you downloaded. In our case above, our file name is OptiFine_1.14.4_HD_U_F5).
Select Install and OptiFine will be installed to your Chromebook Linux installation.
This means that you can play Minecraft full-screen even on an Chromebook and it will work excellent.
Minecraft for Chromebook
On the Minecraft signup page, you'll see an error message that states that Minecraft isn't compatible with Chromebook. This is true, however, when you follow the method above, you're not playing Minecraft on your Chromebook. It's running inside an Linux virtual machine on Chromebook. So as the Minecraft servers know that you're playing Minecraft on a Linux machine.
This means that as long as you have one of the supported Chromebook devices, you are able to run Linux (Beta) and play Minecraft on your Chromebook without any problems at all. If you don't have a supported device but really would like to play Minecraft then you should consider upgrading to one of the better Chromebooks available today.
