Confidential Rankings Reveal Australian Cricket's MVP's

Confidential rankings released this week have revealed the most valuable Cricket Australia players - with Test skipper Pat Cummins at the top of the list, and one of his fast bowling colleagues climbing to second position.



Cummins 29, who is 29 years old, earned the sum of $2million from an unexpected bonus when he became the Test captain in November 2021 , following Tim Paine's resignation over an alleged sexting scandal.



The skipper topped the list ahead of fellow paceman Josh Hazlewood ($1.6million) who surprised by taking second place.



The top five Cricket Australia contracts were signed by David Warner ($1.5 million), Mitchell Starc ($1.4million), and Steve Smith ($1.3million).

It's also the third time in a row Cummins has been named the nation's top cricketer.



The selectors classify players based on their perceived worthiness in Test or one-day as well as Twenty20 internationals, with players who play in all three formats of the game considered the most valuable according to The Age.



Given his injury-marred summer, in which Australia defeated England 4-0 across five Tests Hazlewood's promotion from second to second was a surprise.



His performance at the T20 World Cup, which Australia won in Dubai in December last year was a major boost to his cause.



The International Cricket Council (ICC) ranks him as the third best player as a ODI and T20 cricketer.

The likes of Warner and Hazlewood have also earned huge money abroad in recent years , playing in the lucrative T20 Indian Premier League (IPL).

The coming year of Australian cricket will be a busy one. There will be Test tours to Sri Lanka, India, England, and home Tests against West Indies, South Africa and South Africa.
