While gamers will enjoy an improved experience in 2022 thanks to Apple macOS and Linux, Windows is still the most suitable operating system for gaming. Microsoft is aware of this and, as a result it has integrated a lot of gaming features into Windows over the years. With Windows 11, there are even more gaming-related features. These are the Windows 11 features that will make you next frag session more enjoyable.
Game Bar
Windows 11 Game Bar.
Windows 11 ships with the Game Bar preloaded, giving you access to a variety of useful tools by a single keystroke. The Game Bar can be opened at any time, even if you aren't playing an online game. It can be opened by pressing Win +G. If your Xbox controller is connected to your computer, simply tap the Xbox button.
The Game Bar is an overlay with widgets that allow you to capture gameplay footage, control audio output as well as monitor PC performance and more. In the settings, you can connect to your social media accounts for instant sharing of your captured images and clips.
DirectStorage
If you have a powerful computer, Microsoft has devised a way your hardware can communicate more efficiently, which results in more performance in games. DirectStorage is an application that doesn't require you to do anything more than turning it on. However, you will need to meet certain requirements for your hardware that could require an upgrade.
DirectStorage for Windows 11
DirectStorage allows your computer's memory (where game data is stored) to communicate directly with the GPU. This eliminates the CPU decompression process that most systems require, removing an important performance bottleneck. DirectX 12 games can take advantage DirectStorage when your computer has an NVMe SD and a compatible GPU. Any AMD RDNA2 card or Nvidia's RTX2000-series or older will work.
If you aren't sure whether your system can handle DirectStorage, you can find out in the previously mentioned Game Bar. Select the settings gear and then select Gaming Features. This page will let you know whether your computer or GPU and SSD are compatible.
Auto HDR
Windows 11 Auto HDR.
Games that have HDR (high-dynamic range) can create vivid real-looking colors. However, it has been a rarity for developers to incorporate HDR support in the last few years. Windows 11 has an Auto HDR feature that allows you to boost the hue of games that don't support HDR.
The catch here is that you'll need an LCD that can support HDR and HDR-capable monitors are usually more expensive than conventional panels. Windows can enhance algorithmically non HDR games when you have a compatible monitor. This happens at the OS level, meaning that developers don't have to do anything. To enable Auto HDR, go to Settings > System > Display HDR. Auto HDR will be enabled if your monitor supports it. This will also add an HDR intensity slider in the Game Bar.
Game Mode
There's nothing more frustrating than watching your smooth and smooth game lose frames because something on your PC decided that it was time to run a heavy operation in the background. A game may become unplayable if it is struggling to keep frame rates constant. Game Mode is a feature of Windows 11 that can stop this.
Windows 11 Game Mode
You can find this feature under Settings > Gaming > Game Mode. It's a single toggle, and there aren't any specific hardware requirements. Flip it on, and Windows will not attempt to download or install updates in the background, and applications that utilize the Windows notification system won't interfere with your game. Game Mode swings into action automatically when Windows detects that you're playing an activity.

The Game Bar has plenty of capabilities when you first open it, but it's also more customizable than you imagine. You'll find an inventory of widgets in the menus. This allows you to purchase more overlay items. It's located in the widget list (the far-left button on the main bar). In the very bottom, you'll see the widget store.
The majority of the widgets you'll find in the store are free. However, there are some paid overlays and widgets that can connect to desktop applications purchased by users. You can add floating YouTube videos to your screen, add an ethically questionable crosshair to your screen, and a myriad of other widgets. There are also widgets that allow you to control hardware, such as Corsair coolers and EVGA video cards.
Xbox app

Microsoft's Xbox application is included with Windows 11, and it's worth opening even if you do not own an Xbox. It allows you to buy PC games such as Cuphead, Destiny 2, and Minecraft however it's more than just a Steam replacement with a poorer catalog. It also serves as the center of Microsoft Game Pass on the PC.
Game Pass is a subscription service that makes a wide selection of games available at no cost. You can download and play them for as long as they're available on Game Pass. Microsoft has also bought publishers like Activision-Blizzard and Bethesda to ensure that there are plenty of games to choose from. Even if you don't have an impressive GPU or a gaming console, the Xbox application can help you get your game on. Game Pass Ultimate (the $15-per-month level) includes Cloud Gaming, which renders Xbox games on a server, and then streams games to your PC. While the games aren't as extensive however, you can get Halo Infinite as well as Forza Horizon 5 on this tier. Windows 11 should offer something for everyone, regardless of how they go about getting their gaming fix.
