I think that leadership is based on various types of skills, including negotiating with people that will aid a leader to motive others, make them follow him and later build up a network which has respect and responsibility. Regarding to the mentioned targets, I think some other skills are also required as follows:
Firstly, thinking strategically, this also includes organizing and planning for future actions. In the second place, good decision-making ability comes to my mind and the last but not the least being self-motivated. I think self-motivation will help the leader to inspire others and lead the team in the best way to reach their goals.
Leaders have to work hard and thru project make a connection between their vision and their society members needs and targets.
Considering the mentioned abilities and features of successful leader, please let me describe my recent activities and roles:
My wish to learn and develop helped me to achieve good academic results. Good organizational skills have enabled me to meet academic timelines, in both group based projects and independent assignments. Involvement in student activities such as membership of the 2009 Summer Universiade and Faculty based Student Program further developed my abilities to communicate confidently in groups and contribute to the achievements of team goals. I participated in „Friedrich Ebert Stiftung“ and „European Movement“ seminars (“Serbia and NATO”; “Serbia's foreign policy strategy”), where was needed to work in the small groups.
My engagement in Red Cross of Mladenovac, where as a volunteer I had many workshops with people from different age groups, would be also worth mentioning. There was the place where I improved my public speaking ability due to conduction of several presentations, round table discussions and group meetings. Simultaneously, I become a good listener and thru listening to the speakers, make good questions related to their speech.
One of the most important social commentators - Tomas Carlyle said: “ Leaders are born, not made”. It seems likely to me that successful leadership is result of willing to be successful and hard-working, with main target how to achieve this, then possessing any particular personality qualities.
